Description of Position: Works primarily with one assigned child the majority of the child’s scheduled days and times. The child requires a one on one teacher in order to meet their individualized needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Follows Position Description for 1 on 1 teacher
Provides individualized care for the assigned child:
1) Establishes and consistently builds a positive relationship with the child with trust, understanding, warmth, sensitivity, regard for the child’s perspective, and equity so that the child has individualized support to help the child succeed, learn, and progress in all areas of growth and development.
2) Provides care primarily to the child with one on one required teacher to child ratio. Offers additional support to the other children in the classroom when appropriate.
3) Works with Director and parent when possible to develop, evaluate, and modify an individual care plan. Assists in updating the individual care plan annually or when there is a change in the child’s special needs.
4) Reviews existing Individual Education Plan (IEP), Individual Health Plan (IHP), 504 Plan, or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and attends meetings, when possible, when plans are updated.
5) Is trained by the parent of the child on implementing the individual care plan for that child, if applicable.
6) Administers the needed medications and medical treatment necessary to meet the child’s health needs.
7) Understands the child’s special needs, symptoms, and triggers.
8) Makes activity, behavioral, or environmental modifications for the child in order to promote inclusion and equity.
9) Trains other staff on necessary modifications and individualized needs to ensure consistency in interactions and expectations by all staff in the child’s classroom.
10) Performs any first aid or CPR as needed, including any specific pediatric first aid and CPR for the child’s special health care needs.
11) Individually assists the child in an emergency or disaster.
12) Maintains a professional working relationship with the child, the child’s family, and any professionals or agencies supporting the child.
13) Maintains proper boundaries of a preschool age child or older by having the child sit next to instead of in the teacher’s lap and never picks up or carries the child.
14) Uses picture/symbol cards to help communicate with the child and to help the child communicate with others, as needed.
15) Recognizes the child’s appropriate behavior and when behavior expectations are met while ignoring inappropriate behavior in order to decrease undesired behaviors.
16) Helps the child build confidence and feelings that the child is worthwhile and capable by positively communicating to the child when the child works to accomplish a task, routine, or activity.
17) Helps the child feel assured and supported and never to feel guilty or shamed.
18) Is a consistent model for behavior, expectations, communication and social/emotional skill development for the child.
19) Knows when to appropriately allow physical distance from the child in order to promote inclusion but maintains a constant visual of the child in order to assist when needed.
20) Keeps the child with the child’s classroom group of children at all times and follows the daily schedule of activities and routines with modifications only as listed in the child’s individual plan.
21) Keeps record of the child’s behaviors, progress towards goals, and any other information needed to support the child’s success.
22) Refrains from talking about the child in front of the child or anyone else besides the Director or in a confidential conversation with the child’s family.

Wage starts at $17.50 per hour with additional increases depending on level of education in Early Childhood!
